We are a fly on the wall at the Kanlungan Christmas Party (2022). But our focus is on uplifting narratives, showcasing the Filipino and ESEA communities’ methods of gathering and celebrating despite hardship. What dishes are they making at the Christmas party and why? We profile some people who are part of the preparation and organization, filming Christmas party in real time: different events, setting up the event, raffle prize, eating, Karaoke. The documentary will then give audiences factual information / insight into how the plight of Filipino domestic workers sits within the UK’s ‘hostile’ immigration policy, with input from staff at Filipino Domestic Workers Association and others advocating in the space. Vulnerability/exploitation of the workers, and the limits of the visas available.
